The town has managed to retain its authenticity. It is still inhabited, for the most part, by farmers and fishermen, who bring a fresh catch to the shores daily.  The Burano speciality is the ‘risotto de gò’ – risotto made with the goby fish particular to the Venetian Lagoon)

Burano’s best attraction is the village itself in which the houses are all painted in bright primaries and pastels and is a great way to have a relaxing day if you are staying in Venice.   Make sure you bring your camera.

The best way to reach Burano is to catch the vaporetto line 12 from Fondamente Nuove in Venice.   The journey lasts about 45 minutes and the round trip ticket costs 15 euros.
