1. An introduction and brief history to this wonderful town:
Cavtat has a picturesque waterfront lined with seafood restaurants and a peninsula that has a beautifully dense pine forest with Cypriot pines set against the azure sea. The harbour has traditional fishing boats and glamorous super-yachts. The town is a great place for walking with its waterfront walkways with lots of vantage points particularly from the St Rok Cemetary and on the forested peninsular.
The compact old town is a maze of cobbled, stepped lanes with Renaissance architecture dominating in the form of Rector’s palace, fortifications and city walls. Within the old town you will find 15th-century St Nicholas Church and the old stone house of painter Vlaho Bukovac. There is also the Renaissance influenced Rector’s Palace, home to the curio collection of Baltazar Bogisic, a Victorian scientist who lived in Cavtat.
